A beautiful, illustrated art print.
This print is taken from an original drawing and watercolour/ink painting.
This print features the Birth Flower of August, the poppy. The print is available to include the handdrawn word ‘August’ or as a blank print and includes a card that has information about the history and symbolic meanings around the August.
The card says; ‘The birth flower of August, the poppy symbolises imagination. But especially in Western culture, they also symbolise remembrance. Particularly red poppies.
But poppies are available in a variety of colours, each with their own meanings. Yellow poppies mean prosperity. White poppy flowers symbolise sympathy. And there are even purple poppies, which represent enchantment.
According to Greek mythology, the poppy was associated with Demeter, the goddess of agriculture. It was believed if poppies grew in your field, a bountiful crop would follow.
In ancient Greece, poppies were associated with Hypnos, the god of sleep, Thanatos (death), and Morpheus (dreams).’
